Lipolysis is defined as the hydrolysis of lipids. In other words, fat is broken down through its reaction with water. With laser lipolysis, the fat is broken down, or melted, by a laser. Dr. Chang was confident in his utilization of the SmartLipo™ system for treating localized fat deposits (small areas) on the face and body. However, he questioned whether it was sufficient for larger areas of the body. The answer was no.
