Miami’s Soluna MD Lipo and Vein Cosmetic Institute Battles Varicose Veins, Spider Veins and Vein Disease with Cutting-Edge Venacure™ EVLT
Soluna MD’s commitment to patient care continues as the center now brings treatments easily within reach to those who suffer from unsightly and painful veins associated with vein disease and other vein-related problems.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) November 24, 2010

Miami’s Soluna MD Lipo and Vein Cosmetic Institute is well known both nationally and internationally for being a leader in the most comprehensive solutions to get rid of unsightly and painful varicose veins and spider veins, and in treating vein disease.

Yet, what also sets Soluna MD apart from so many other vein care centers is its commitment to providing patient education. “We want our patients to feel confident before, during and after their treatments, so that they can enjoy all of the wonderful and lasting benefits of our treatments,” says John W. Chang, MD, general and cosmetic surgeon, who leads the Soluna MD staff, and is internationally recognized as a specialist in vein treatment.

In the initial consultation and throughout the entire procedure, the staff at Soluna MD works with each patient, preparing an individualized treatment plan that best suits their needs. Unlike many other centers that offer vein treatments, procedures are performed in a supervised medical facility by a surgeon who specializes in vein disease. “Vein treatment is not an ‘add-on’ service at Soluna MD; it is one of our key specializations,” says Dr. Chang.

Nearly 40 percent of women and 25 percent of men suffer from lower extremity venous insufficiency – or vein disease. For both women and men, unsightly varicose and spider veins can also have an emotional impact, leading to low self-esteem and negative self image. Especially in climates where shorts, skirts and bathing suits are an important part of everyday life, dealing with the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins can be very difficult. With Soluna MD’s state-of-the-art treatments, which are administered in a comfortable setting in a short period of time, patients are amazed at how quickly and effectively the procedures are performed. Many times, treatments are covered by health insurance, and Soluna MD works with several of the major insurance carriers, and also Medicare, to ensure treatments are accessible and affordable.

What Causes Vein Disease?

Unavoidable underlying causes of chronic venous insufficiency that can lead to varicose veins and spider veins include an inherited genetic predisposition and the normal aging process. Any condition that puts more pressure on leg veins – including standing for long periods of time, being overweight or pregnancy – can also cause varicose veins or spider veins. Both women and men can suffer from varicose veins and spider veins, which appear most commonly between the ages of 30 and 70.

Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted rope-like veins that appear near the surface of the skin. While they can develop anywhere in the body, they are most commonly found in the legs and ankles because standing and walking increase pressure in the lower extremities.

Spider veins (telangiectasias) are similar to varicose veins, but smaller and found closer to the skin’s surface. They take their name from their appearance, which resembles a spider’s web. Usually red or blue in color, they vary in size and can be found in other areas of the body besides the legs, including the face. Appearance is generally the first symptom of these conditions, but as vein disease progresses, legs begin to feel heavy, tired and achy. Symptoms worsen with prolonged periods of sitting or standing. Muscle cramping may be accompanied by a burning and throbbing feeling in the lower legs. Varicose veins can also cause a change in skin color (known as stasis pigmentation), dry and thinning skin, inflammation of the skin, open sores and bleeding.

What Can Be Done?

After an initial, free consultation with Soluna MD’s specialists, a treatment plan is compiled that recommends what procedure is best for the patient.

• For varicose veins, Soluna MD offers the Venacure™ EVLT system, which uses laser energy to eliminate unsightly varicose veins with no hospital stay, minimal to no scarring, no lengthy recovery and minimal to no side effects. When used to treat medical symptoms, such as swelling and poor circulation, the VenaCure EVLT treatment is usually reimbursed by health insurance.

• For spider veins and the removal of smaller varicose veins, Soluna MD offers sclerotherapy. Veins are injected with a sterile chemical sclerant, which irritates the vessel’s lining, causing the vein to subside beneath the skin’s surface and eventually fade away completely. Fast and affordable, sclerotherapy does not require anesthetic and there is no downtime or scarring associated with this simple procedure.
